Marie Rhines, a classically-trained violinist/composer whose style encompasses classical, European, traditional Americana and Western, holds a Master of Music Degree from Yale University and the New England Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Political Science from Northeastern and Boston Universities. She has been the recipient of twenty-two awards from ASCAP for composing, and various other awards including a Rockefeller Grant from the American Music Center in New York.
The New England-bred (Lexington/Boston/Vermont/CapeCod) musician, singer and composer, has mastered a variety of violin and fiddle techniques, encompassing Scottish reels and pipe tunes from the Isle of Skye, Shetland fiddle tunes, Irish jigs and reels, old time New England and Appalachian Bluegrass. Rhines currently lives in Sedona, Arizona where she has been exploring the history and culture of the American cowboy/cowgirl. For several years she has concentrated on researching and writing Western music, and has recently resumed touring.
Rhines also performs her original violin concertos based on Americana fiddling with symphony orchestras. In addition Ms Rhines also offers a music and lecture program entitled "Incredible Women of the West", that has proven very popular in colleges and museums.
